Um... YOU tell us what's wrong... it's rather hard to diagnose a program when you don't tell us what is it doing wrong. Care to post more details about it?

To be honest, I don't actually know why this works, and yours not. Yet, most sources I've seen use those parameters. Give it a try.

What, do you feel, needs to be improved in the existing gaming engines, that you need to create one from scratch? Do you have any concrete, specific ideas for it?
And, if you actually don´t, then why not using the tons of existing ones for your game?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but the gist of it is, DS / DSi units, individually, have wide differences among them in their clock frequencies. Probably the hardware is to blame here. Remember these are gaming consoles, not high-precision industrial equipment for critical-equipment usage. And speak...
