C8051F34x as USB host?

Post by Sonny_Jim » Fri Jun 19, 2009 4:53 pm

In response to a question on the DSLinux forums, would it be possible to modify the MCU to act as a USB host? I understand that a seperate psu would be needed for the +5v but apart from that is there a reason why it couldn't be done, either with a C8051F34x or similar controller.

According to the SiLabs data sheet, http://www.keil.com/dd/docs/datashts/si ... 51f34x.pdf, no. It doesn't say why & I'm afraid I'm not enough of a USB expert to figure it out.

WinterMute is right. USB uses a master/slave architecture and the master is much more complex.
