dswifi development on desmume?

I realize this question is more about desmume than dswifi, but I though this forum would be better suited.

I'd like to port an application I've written to DS. To ease development, I'd like to test my work in desmume (which seems to be the best emulator). This works fine, but now I'm on to networking.

I grabbed the latest desmume from subversion and built it with --enable-wifi. I have pcap configured correctly on my linux box. Running the dswifi "httpget" example works, sort of.

Here's the problem. httpget is very slow on networking, running this wifi-enabled desmume. It eventually prints (after about a minute):
