Trademark Usage Guidelines

devkitPro, devkitARM, devkitPPC, devkitPSP, devkitA64 and other devkitPro graphics, logos and service names are trademarks of Dave Murphy. These trademarks may not be used in connection with any product or service that is not devkitPro's, in any manner that is likely to cause confusion among customers, or in any manner that disparages or discredits devkitPro.

Trademarks and the GPL

devkitPro software products, such as devkitARM, are copyrighted works released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). Verbatim copies of such works may be made and distributed, by anyone, in accordance with the terms of the GPL without violating the devkitPro trademarks. The GPL also grants you certain rights to make and distribute derivative works based on the source code to devkitPro products. Any modification of a devkitPro product, including but not limited to adding binaries, libraries or modifying the scripts within a devkitPro toolchain installation is no longer a devkitPro product and may not use the trademarks at all.

The GPL does not grant you any right to use devkitPro trademarks in connection with these derivative works. devkitPro trademarks may not be used in connection with any such derivative works unless that usage is explicitly and specifically licensed, in writing, from Dave Murphy.

Please note that we do not supply old binaries or source for old binaries and you may not distribute GPL binaries without corresponding source code.

We are not lawyers

Trademark and copyright issues are, at heart, legal matters. We've tried to keep this explanation as simple and common-sense as possible, but if you have any questions about when and how to use devkitPro trademarks, your best bet is to ask a lawyer. We are not lawyers.

Why we do this

Despite our best efforts to advise and support our users, some individuals feel the need to repackage old versions of devkitPro products with mismatched libraries in order to avoid updating their products to work with the latest tools. Some of these products will overwrite your installation without option or warning, creating an installation which no longer functions as expected. Supporting people who have suffered from these 3rd party products takes time away from improving the tools on which our users depend.
