Where to start off with GX

Hey, i'm mv2112. I've been programming my Wii with SDL for a while now but performance is becoming an issue. I'm starting to get the hang of openGL but GX seems more complicated than openGL. Where would be a good place to start off learning GX? I've looked at some of the examples but I'd like to know what some of the functions (particularly the setup ones) are doing under the hood to get a better perception on what im actually programming. Where should I begin?
